Great energy at pollinator project launch
“A green space at this prominent location will bring benefits, not only for the bees, butterflies, beetles, and birds it will attract, but also for the businesses of South Broadway…”
Excitement was in the air at the launch of SoBro Conservancy of Saratoga’s first project, the regreening of a former gas station site at the “gateway to South Broadway”. Thursday, Sept 29, provided a beautiful fall afternoon as supporters gathered for the unveiling of a “coming soon” sign.
After the veil dropped to expose the new sign, short remarks were made by SoBro team members Tom Denny, Joanne Yepsen, and Johanna Garrison. “A green space at this prominent location will bring benefits,” Denny noted, “not only from the bees, butterflies, beetles, and birds it will attract, but also for the businesses of South Broadway, by creating a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly transition from central Broadway to the SoBro commercial corridor and the State Park beyond.”
With this sign, the project now becomes visible at the future site of the pollinator-friendly green space. While prep work and planting unfolds over the next few years, the sign will give passersby a basic understanding of the project and the QR code will allow them to link to more info on the SoBro Conservancy website.
And it’s not just humans who are excited about habitat improvement at the “gateway to South Broadway…. ducks arrived to show their approval.”
